BASICS FOR BELIEVERS: AN EXPOSITION OF PHILIPPIANS

(Professor Don Carson, 4 sessions)

In Basics for Believers, renowned Bible teacher and scholar, Don Carson opens up the life-transforming lessons of Philippians.   Written from prison by the Apostle Paul, while awaiting a trial that could result in his execution, to fellow Christians faced with the difficulties of living in a pagan world, we learn how we can put the whole gospel first, learn to live as disciples of Christ, and never give up the Christian walk.

(Dr Don Carson is Research Professor of New Testament at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School.  Well known speaker and author of many books, including the-award winning The Gagging of God: Christianity Confronts Pluralism, The Gospel According to John and The Difficult Doctrine of the Love of God)

ENJOYING GOD

(Dr John Piper, 3 sessions)

God is most glorified in us when we are most satisfied in Him

Are we meant to enjoy God?  Yes, we are! The Bible commands us to delight in the Lord (Psalm37:4; Philippians 4:4).  Indeed, not to do so, and to seek happiness elsewhere, is said, by God, to be the height of folly (Jeremiah 2:13)   In fact, we are called to live the whole of our lives, so that whether we eat or drink, or whatever we do, we should do it all to the glory of God (1 Corinthians 10:31).  Dr Piper here presents a perspective on following Christ that does not trivialise and has brought a new, refreshing and encouraging understanding to many to what lies at the heart of biblical faith and life - knowing and enjoying God.

(Dr John Piper, Senior Pastor of Bethlehem Baptist Church, Minneapolis, Minnesota is a noted conference speaker and author of over thirty books, including Desiring God. The Pleasures of God, Battling Unbelief and Amazing Grace in the Life of William Wilberforce)

THE LIFE AND WRITINGS OF CS LEWIS

(Professor Louis Markos, 6 sessions)

In this six-session series of addresses Dr Markos presents a facinating survey of the life and writings of perhaps the 20th century's most noted Christian apologist, C.S. Lewis.  Well known as the writer of the Chronicles of Narnia, after his conversion from atheism the scholar from Oxford and Cambridge came to be one of the best known figures in the English speaking world as a defender of the faith he once rejected.  His writings included academic works in the field of Medieval and Renaissance literature, science fiction, children's literature, and specific works addressing the nature of man, education, society and Christianity.  His books continue to sell in their millions, the best known of his works - other than the Chronicles - being Mere Christianity.

(Professor Louis Markos is Professor of English Literature at Houston Baptist University)

WAR OF WORDS: Getting to the heart of your communication struggles

(Dr Paul Tripp, 7 sessions)

Words! Words! Words!

“Words shape our relationships, capture our vision, define our plans and convey our thoughts.  We love with our words and we hate with our words.  With words we make both war and peace.  Words are our salve of compassion and our instruments of judgement.  Everything we do is connected to our words.  They reveal who we are.”  (Dr Paul Tripp)

Do you have a problem controlling your tongue?

Would like help to change?

Would you like some guidance in dealing with difficult relationships?

Here is a course for you.

WAR OF WORDS is built around a series of video lectures by Dr Paul Tripp.  Paul is a counsellor of 25 years experience, co-author of How People Change, and Relationships: A Mess Worth Making; and author of several other books, including War of Words: Getting to the Heart of Your Communication Struggles, Age of Opportunity and Lost in the Middle: Midlife and the Grace of God.   Currently on the pastoral staff at Tenth Presbyterian Church, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Paul is also an adjunct professor at Westminster Theological Seminary in Philadelphia, visiting professor at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky, and adjunct faculty at the Christian Counseling and Educational Foundation in Glenside, Pennsylvania.
